Our fake scenarios all consist of us being a perfect main character. Everything is just perfect, falling into place the way we wish things did. It’s all cinematic. We imagine the best versions of ourselves, or at least what we wish we were. But in real life? We are the side characters. Correction; we feel like the side characters. It’s almost a canon event in everyone’s life. That one person who sidelined you. Or that group that conveniently forgot you were standing there the whole time. Or maybe those times when it felt like everyone around you was living their best life with that perfect Rihanna soundtrack, while you were stuck in Crappy Horror Movie: Part 56. Truth is? Those people who left you out, felt the same way about someone else. Everyone, at some point feels like a side character in their own lives. Despite appearing perfect and polished on the outside. When a moment or even a series of events that make you feel like a forgotten toy, you (yes you) have made it a habit to pull back. This just led to normalizing running away and accepting that, “I’m just not perfect enough”. Blaming this idea of being a “side character” on something like insecurity or bad luck is easy, but not exactly fair to you now, is it? Insecurity, as real and crippling as it may be, is still a hurdle. What people don’t realize is just how dangerous insecurities can become, and how much they can pull you back from experiencing the life we were always meant to lead. We don’t even realize that we do this to ourselves. The constant fear of judgement and fear of confrontation are training wheels in our lives. But at some point, the training wheels come off, don’t they? That point when life gets overwhelming, is the moment we dive in. And that small leap could become a lifetime or eternal joy. We’re shown a part of ourselves we never knew existed. And we finally realize that we were the main character all along. No matter how corny it sounds. It takes a moment to realize that your life is in your hands.
